A fall Update

I have not been very good at uodating this blog this fall, sorry. Here is a little summary and pictures of our fall afterschool!
We explored a bit if Germany, spent a lot if time making rainbow bracelets, and duct tape projects and Lego. We enjoyed HALLOWEEN Bingo with Kim's group. I can't forget making our own pretzels, rice Krispy squares and of course, mixology! We are now working in Christmas gifts and projects and will be studying India for the next couple months.

GERMANY & Autumn Fun!

For the next two weeks after school we will be playing with Oktoberfest
Tuesday we will celebrate by playing a few German children's games and having Black Forest cake.
Thursday there will be an invitation to make German cardstock gingerbread hearts.
We will experiment with some sausage and pretzel making, leaf printing and exploring some pictures a good friend of mine has shared from her recent trip to Germany.
On October 7, we will begin to study some beautiful castles in Germany for the last two weeks of our study of Germany.

The children have been very focused on playing Lego, getting back into the swing of school and adjusting to their new schedules. I don't like to make after school too structured, they really do need this down time and time to socialize with their friends. All activities are set out as invitations, except when we have a special event planned.

Over the next few weeks there will be serval Fall art activities set out as well. These will include coffee filter leaves & apple tree printing.

Hope everyone is enjoying your Fall so far! Don't forget to take a peak at our beautiful Harvest moon. The Autumn Equinox is today, September 22 and the moon was really breathtaking last night!

My family visited the Green Pig corn maze a couple weeks ago, I recommend this fun activity if you have some time on the weekend. They have a few special events planned in October; flashlight corn maze (6-9pm Friday & Saturdays). They also have pumpkin blasting, this was a fun activity too, we all had a try!

Gourmet corn in the Cobb is back at the dieppe market!! It doesn't last long and well worth the effort to get there on a Saturday! 2 minutes to boil and it is delicious!!!

Summer camp day #1

With only three children this week it sure made making plans pretty easy. On our first day we went to WRES playground to play with Playful Penguins group in the morning after having Ella's favourite-cheese biscuits, for snack.
The children picked fresh garden peas and carrots from the garden to go with pizza for lunch.

This afternoon was a cloudy kind if day and I have been craving gingerbread & fresh whipped cream since my family's visit to King's Landing this summer so, created a really awesome gingerbread-cooking smell in my house while the kiddos played school downstairs. ( I guess they must be ready for next week to start!)

We also made homemade bubbles to create bubble art and the highlight if the day was-BUG CATCHING! We spent some time in the field out back and caught some grasshoppers in the personal bug catching necklaces. Skye's fun fact: Ella is NOT afraid of grasshoppers! Another fun fact: grasshoppers are herbivores and eat half their body weight in plants every day!
Super-fun camp day #1!!!

Around the world in a school year

This year after school we will be exploring the world!!! We will choose 8 countries and explore, one every 4-5 weeks. The children will choose the countries that they are interested in learning about. Mexico, China, Scotland & Australia have already been chosen.
We will research a little about the celebrations, food, crafts and customs of each country.

If your child is coming after school this year, tell them to think about what country they would like to explore and you can email me!

Nacho bar on a PD day

This kiddies talked me into a nacho be for lunch today while we were together for a PD day.
We made a list of what we wanted, walked to the superstore and shopped for the ingredients, the children worked the self-serve checkout and bagged the groceries.
When we got back from our walk everyone pitched in to prepare; peeling and cutting cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, scallions and grating cheese and set up the nacho 'buffet'. Everyone made their own plate (or 2 or 3 plates!!!) and did we ever enjoy our creation! The children agreed that it was the best PD day activity ever!!!
